Improving Our Education System

Chris recently emailed supporters to announce the endorsement of the political arm of the Jefferson County Teachers Association and lay out his plan to work with parents and teachers to improve our education system. Read his email below:
Better Schools Kentucky, the political arm of the Jefferson County Teachers Association, just endorsed my campaign! Teachers are champions of our children and I am encouraged by their support. I want to continue improving our exceptional school system by increasing teacher pay, supporting educational management organizations, and setting high expectations in the areas of math, science, and technology.
Education funding is one of the most important responsibilities of local government. The money we spend, especially while our economy continues to rebound, must be invested in the classroom, rather than the administrative bureaucracy.
To keep our children healthy, I will place nurses from the health department in schools.
Parents are working long hours and many students don't have a place to go when the school day ends. I support adding meaningful after school programs, and taking the responsibility off of teachers.
Our children will be entering a competitive and tough marketplace when they graduate. We must provide them with the skills they need to compete in the 21st century. I look forward to working with parents and teachers to improve our education system.

Chris, it shouldn’t be automatically assumed that education is a government job. If all education were privatized it would be much cheaper and overall would give us a more competitive workforce in the international arena.
I totally disagree that education should be all privatized - i think Chris has it right on. I can say, though, that if it were privatized, gov’t should retain some level of control over curriculum
